Elín ÓskDate of birth: 6th April 1988

Category: Bikini fitness

Competition history:
2012 Arnold Classic Amateur Europe
2012 IFBB Icelandic Cup, 2nd place.

Where do you work / go to school?

I am finishing college and then I will study to become an air traffic controller.

How does it work combining work, school and preparing for a competition?

It´s no problem to do everything in school and train at the same time as long as I organize myself. That’s number 1, 2 and 3. If I don´t do that things could get ugly in the food department ;)

Why did yoy decide to compete in bikini fitness?

I have always had an interest in staying healthy and fit. So in October 2011, I decided to contact my trainer Konrad Gislason to see if I could compete. And now I can´t stop! I caught the fitness wires as some would say.

How many years have you been training?

I started in October 2011. My first competition was in April 2012.

What is your background in sports?

When I was younger I was practicing gymnastics, handball and swimming.

Do you feel that your background in gymnastics has helped you in fitness?

Yes I think so, but it is not like I could do the splits anymore when I started working out in 2011 but it definitely help in the long run that I had some background in playing sports.

Do you have the support of your family?

Yes my family helped me a lot with my little girl. It can get busy with school, training, family, friends and work but anything is possible.

What is your goal within the sport?

My goal is to go as far in this sport as possible and it would be a dream come true if I would get a pro card from IFBB and maybe one day people will look up to me and also want a healthy life style and be fit.

Who do you look up to in this sport?

I don´t have only one that I look up to because there are so many I like. For example there are a few I love in Iceland and that is Sif Sveinsdottir, Kris J (WBFF Pro), and Heidi Ola. Then there are Ingrid Romero, Nathalia Melo, Nicole Wilkins and many many more. These are just the ones that are on top of my mind

Where do you train?

I think it is best to train in World Class Laugar. I think the main reason is that my trainer is there. He gives me a workout plan that I follow and he is there to see if I´m doing something wrong. I´m also just used to train there now.

Do you have a training partner?

I train with my girl friend (Vilborg Sigþórsdóttir) who is also competing in bikini fitness and also I train with my trainer 3 times a week.

How is a typical day in the life of Elín Ósk?

When I´m not cutting down for a competition my day starts around 08:00, I have breakfast (protein and carbs), go to school then I eat again at 10:00, then I have lunch at 12:00 usually chicken, rice and a salad. At 14:00 protein and apple and before I go training I have carbs and a pre workout drink. Always protein after training. Then I go home and cook a nice dinner for me and my daughter and then I have casein protein about 30min before I go to sleep.

How many times a week do you train?

I do cardio around 3-6 times a week and train 6 times a week when i´m cutting down but in the offseason I just train 6 times a week.

How is your training program?

I´s different every 6 weeks, usually I do it like this:
Monday: shoulders and biceps
Thusday: legs and glutes
Wendsday: Back,
Thursday: Chest and glutes
Friday: Shoulders and triceps,
Saturday: Glutes

What´s your favorite body part to train?

Glutes, Glutes Glutes. Can´t get enough of it ;)

What´s your favorite exercise?

Glute bridges with weights just might be my most fav.

Do you take any posing classes?

Yes of course, I think it is very important to go, especially go to a class where the teacher knows what the judges are looking for. Train hard at home because you want to look the best when you are on the stage, you´re poses have to be perfect and you need to look confident!

How many weeks is your cutting cycle?

It depends on how well I did off season, sometimes you just eat a “little” bit more then you should so… Then you´ve got to start earlier

Do you weigh your food during cutting cycle?

Yes always, if my trainer tells me to, I do it!

What´s you favorite meal when your cutting down?

Definitely beef and potatos! When I´m offseason I love to go to Ginger (my fav restaurant) and get the chicken with sweet potato´s.

Do you listen to music while you train?

Yes mostly something very fast, upbeat and motivating.

What food supplements do you use?

I use Whey protein (Nectar Syntrax), casein protein and many more. I buy all my supplements in Fitness Sport (store in Reykjavik).

Do you carb deplete and carb load before a competition?

Yebb I do.

What do you need to work on for your next competition?

I want my abs to show more, hopefully they will appear and stop being so shy ;)

Why, in your opinion, do you think that Icelandic fitness and bodybuilding competitors are doing so well abroad?

That is so awesome for such a small country to do so well and I am very proud of each and every one of them! I think we are doing so well because we train hard, we are not going to go abroad to make a fool of ourselves and we want to show every one how great this little island is. People just want to be healthier and obtain a good lifestyle and what better way to do it then doing this.

Are you interested in competing abroad?

Yes I am, Arnold Classic of course, Loaded Cup and the World Championship, those would be my first choices now.

How important is it to have good sponsors?

It is very good for you to have sponsors to save money for example. It can be a very expensive sport.

Who are your sponsors?

Ginger (restaurant) the best place to eat a healthy and great tasting food, Fitness Sport is where I get all of my protein and everything I need to build me up and stay in the best shape, World Class gym, Starsmile because everyone needs a big white smile and Sælan tanning salon.

Is there anything you want to say to girls that are going to compete for the first time?

If this is really what you want to do you should work hard, train hardar and don´t stop when things get rough. Think about your dream and you can do what ever you want! Train your mind and your body will follow

Any last words?

I hope you had fun reading about me and maybe found it a little useful.
